The list of recreational amenities designed in to the Ave Maria plan is lengthy. Two parks, a fitness center, tennis center, water park, community center and walking trails provide for a range of outdoor experiences. Families with active children will likely spend many weekends at the parks, where athletic fields and courts are available to host league play and pick-up games. The tennis center is also impressive, containing 17 lighted courts, spectator seating and a pro shop. Water play is available at the water park, which features separate pools for kids and toddlers. Finally, for distance runners and casual walkers alike, there are more than 100 miles of trails linking the community to an expanse of gorgeous undeveloped land.
Complementing the local recreational opportunities are many more options within driving distance. From the sandy Gulf Coast beaches to the numerous golf courses of Naples, Collier County is well-suited for outdoor enthusiasts. There are also many landmark attractions, such as the Everglades, Caribbean Gardens Zoo and Naples Botanical Gardens.
Naples is home to a thriving arts community as well. The expansive Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts houses its own philharmonic orchestra and the Naples Museum of Art. The museum hosts visiting exhibitions and carries a permanent collection focusing on American modernism, Mexican modernism and contemporary art.
Ave Maria will debut its first phase in mid-2007, with the opening of the university campus and various town facilities. Full build-out of the community is scheduled for 2016, at which time Ave Maria is projected to have about 24,000 residents.
